Lake Placid, you’re under a precautionary boil water alert to start the weekend iof you live in the Lake Blue area on the town’s north side,. There was a water main break in the area yesterday, and pretty much everyone in that neck of the woods except the Raceway, Holiday Inn and Lakeside Cottages is affected. Bottle, boiled or otherwise treated until noon Moday, to the give the state labs a chance to test and confirm all is well.

Highlands County deputies have made a couple arrests in that November 25th shooting in Highway Park, on Lake Placid’s south end. 28 year old Akeem Demarius Hill was picked up Monday evening and charged with attempted murder along with a couple other counts. He joins Jurvaski Tamon Hawthorne, Senior who was arrested earlier that day on a similar collection of charges stemming from an incident where detectives say Hill, Hawthorne and one or two accomplices chased a man down in his vehicle and shot at him in apparent retribution for a relationship with Hawthorne’s ex-girlfriend.

South Florida State College graduated the latest class from its Criminal Justice Academy Wednesday night. Speakers to the group included Deputy Kevin Gentry. His brother, the late Deputy William Gentry was present in another symbolic way – one of the graduates, Ryan Davidson, attended the academy on a scholarship established in Gentry’s name by the Lake Placid Noon Rotary Club.
