News Update for 12/10/18

Sebring police are investigating a fatal shooting. The incident happened around 7:00 last night at a home on Rainbow Avenue. Early reports indicate a child apparently got hold of a firearm.
No names or other details on the incident have yet been released.

It looks to be a busy evening for the Avon Park city council when they meet in regular session tonight. Among other things, they will get an update on the mold mitigation inside the Brickell Building and will hear more about an agreement for water and sewer service with the Nucor steel plant – that would extend the municipal lines up into Polk County.
The council also will go over the separation agreement with former city attorney Glinda Pruitt.

The Lake Placid Town Council will have a meeting tonight , and it may be the last in their current location. They will be dealing with a number of items that will facilitate their move to the new council chambers on Highway 27.
Council members also are expected to approve the transfer of some land on Hillcrest Avenue, so the county can build a new Fire/EMS station there.

Firefighters in the City of Charm had some work yesterday. The Avon Park Fire Department was dispatched to Houston Chevrolet on Highway 27 on the report of a structure fire. Reportedly, on arrival they requested mutual aid from Highlands Lakes.
Reportedly, the flames were contained to the exterior wall and one room on the second floor. Smoke filled the entire building.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation, No injuries have been reported in the incident.
