News Update for 9/14/18

Highlands County Sheriff’s detectives are seeking information about shots being fired in Avon Park early yesterday morning.
They say that sometime between 3 and 3:30, several shots were fired outside a residence on W. Hal McRae Blvd. Seven of those shots struck the house, and four of them entered the structure. Luckily, none of the four people in the home were hurt.
Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to call 863-402-7250, They say tips will be held confidential.

Firefighters from Highlands Lakes, Highlands County, Avon Park and West Sebring responded to a structure fire on South Eller Rd yesterday. According to reports, the home was “significantly involved” in flames when units arrived at the Avon Park Estates address.
So far, there’s no indication on the damage estimate to the house. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshalls Office.
No injuries were reported in the incident.

Highlands County officials want to know where you get your news – so they have turned to social media to find out. Highlands County Public Information Officer Gloria Rybinski has posted the dozen-question survey on the county’s Facebook page.
They say the purpose of the questionnaire is to make certain that they can get information to residents “in the best way possible.”

They’re lined up outside Dr. David E. Willey’s office on Lakeview Drive today.
It’s the Sebring dentist’s annual “Day of Giving,” where he offers free dental care for those in need. In fact, there will be three dentists – including Dr Steven Guelff and Dr Mike Lamp – on hand as well as a full staff of nurses and volunteers to take care of the crowd.
The patients will be seen on a first-come, first served basis.
