A Sebring woman was hauled off to the County Jail, accused of making a series of bizarre online threats against police Friday night. Cops were made aware of some comments and video that were posted on Facebook Messenger. Over the course of four hours, the 27 year old is accused of writing nearly 200 posts, many threatening gun violence or arson attacks on the department’s headquarters. Police say she even drove by the police department after sending the messages. She was arrested without incident.

Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies were out in force over the Labor Day weekend, wrapping up their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign – the department was looking to keep impaired drivers off the road, and made 1100 traffic stops during the campaign. 832 of the stops ended in warnings, but the cops did make 7 DUI arrests and issued 197 traffic citations. 34 arrests were made for reasons listed as “other.”

Don’t doze off in Circle Park. Sebring Police are enforcing the city’s ban on what’s charitably called “outdoor camping” on public property. Sebring’s ordinance prohibits extended rest or sleeping outdoors on public property for more than thirty minutes at a stretch. Habitual offenders could get ticketed, fined $500, or see 30 days in jail.

Former School Superintendent candidate and school administrator Chris Doty will get his day in court September 10, when his case goes for final action in front of the state’s Education Practices Commission. Last spring, Doty’s campaign was rattled by statements by the Commission finding “probable cause” exists to justify sanctions against his Florida Education certificate. The charges date back to 2020 and 2021 when Doty was alleged to have created a hostile environment at Avon Park Middle School.
