The Blackmon family, owners of Harder Hall, say they plan to participate in the upcoming request for proposal for Sebring’s Municipal Golf Course but are urging city officials not to rush the process during the busy holiday season. At last week’s City Council meeting, Jim Blackmon stressed the importance of transparency, fairness, and open participation, noting the decision’s significance for the community. He suggested delaying the RFP until after the holidays with a clearly defined 90-day window to ensure a thoughtful and inclusive process.
A well-deserved spotlight is shining on the people who keep Highlands County informed! The County Commission has officially declared November 1st through 7th as Public Information Officers Week.
Nine PIOs from local agencies — including law enforcement, fire rescue, schools, and health care — joined commissioners for the proclamation last week. Together, they represented more than 20 communicators who work around the clock to share updates, issue alerts, and tell our community’s story. Their teamwork helps build trust and keep Highlands County connected.
