The American Legion Post 69 in Avon Park is inviting the community to come together for a Wreaths Across America fundraiser on Saturday, October 18th, from 1 to 3 p.m. For just $17, guests can enjoy a roast beef dinner while helping fund wreaths to honor local veterans at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The event will feature live music by Side Project Duo, raffles, and plenty of community spirit — all to ensure every veteran’s resting place is remembered this holiday season.
Employees at Bill Jarrett Ford in Avon Park rolled up their sleeves for a good cause recently— collecting 400 pounds of food for Hands for Homeless. It’s all part of Ford Motor Company’s global “Fill a Ford — Help Impact Lives” campaign, led by Elena Ford, Henry Ford’s great-great-granddaughter. The goal? One million pounds of food to help fight hunger worldwide. The local dealership’s donation will help feed about 70 families in Highlands County — a big show of community spirit and teamwork from the Bill Jarrett Ford crew.
Drivers in Sebring — heads up! Highlands County Road & Bridge crews began work yesterday to widen and resurface Beacon Avenue, from State Road 17 to about 1,150 feet east of Panther Parkway. The road is closed to traffic and the project is expected to take about six months. Detours are in place, with drivers urged to use Home Avenue and SR 17 to get around. Access will remain open for Waterside Mobile Home Park and Sandlace Road residents. For updates or questions, call 863-402-6536.
Start your engines — NASA’s 2026 National Championships are coming back to Sebring International Raceway! The high-speed event will take place September 24th through 27th, marking the 20th annual championship for the National Auto Sport Association. NASA last raced at Sebring in 2017, and organizers say drivers are thrilled to return to the historic track — famous for its fast straightaways and notoriously bumpy Turn 17. Raceway officials say the event will add another exciting chapter to Sebring’s legendary racing history, dating all the way back to 1950.
