Governor Ron DeSantis was in Sebring Thursday to announce major state funding for local infrastructure projects. As part of $311 million awarded statewide, the Sebring Regional Airport will receive $3 million to replace its stormwater system, while the City of Avon Park will receive $22 million to assess and repair its sanitary sewer system. DeSantis said the funding reflects the state’s continued focus on strengthening rural Florida communities.

The City of Wauchula is among several Florida communities receiving major state funding for infrastructure improvements. Governor Ron DeSantis announced more than $311 million statewide, including $2.3 million for wastewater system repairs and flood mitigation in Wauchula, along with an additional $510,000 to improve the city’s water distribution system. Arcadia will receive more than $22 million for stormwater expansion and wastewater treatment upgrades. State leaders say the projects will improve resiliency and support long-term growth.

A Winter Haven man is facing a first-degree felony following a violent bar stabbing in Polk County. Deputies say 33-year-old Tylor Scott Hartzog stabbed another man multiple times during an early-morning altercation at the Tuff Luck Saloon Wednesday. The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Investigators say Hartzog claimed self-defense, but evidence and witness statements did not support that claim. He is charged with attempted second-degree murder with a weapon.
