Exciting news for race fans-Multi-platinum country artist Colt Ford will headline Friday night entertainment at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 20th. The concert is part of Fan Zone entertainment scheduled throughout race week, March 18th–21st. He will take the stage at 9 p.m. in the Fan Zone. The 74th running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring begins at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, with four days of racing and events scheduled March 18–21. All race tickets include admission to the concert.

Rural King will open its new Sebring location at Lakeshore Mall with a soft opening scheduled for April 9 and a grand opening on April 17. The store is located in the former Sears building at the north end of the mall. Company officials say the retailer will offer farm supplies, livestock feed, lawn equipment, workwear, home goods and more. Rural King, founded in 1960 and headquartered in Illinois, operates more than 150 stores in 17 states, including seven in Florida.

Highlands County schools raised $5,753.57 for United Way during the first School Spirit Showdown held January 28 through February 6. Sixteen schools participated in the district-wide fundraiser. Sun ‘N Lake Elementary School collected the highest total at $1,517.54, followed by Memorial Elementary with $853.81 and Sebring Middle School with $717.08. Proceeds will benefit 14 United Way programs serving Highlands County. As the top fundraiser, Sun ‘N Lake Elementary will receive a United Way-sponsored school event.

A piece of Polk County history is now gone forever. A fire Tuesday night destroyed the Old Tucker Home at Kathleen Road and West Campbell Road. Kathleen Area Historical Society President Lois Sherrouse-Murphy says the historic farmhouse was probably built around 1900. Joseph and Mary Tucker lived there and raised four kids. There’s no word on how the fire started, and no one was hurt. The home has been abandoned, and Sherrouse-Murphy tells Fox 13 News it’s kind of sad that a link to the past is no more.
