Soup Up the Arts returns to Sebring High School on February 26, raising funds for seven Highlands County families facing serious medical conditions. Avon Park City Council has approved several major upgrades, including fire station renovations, airport security improvements and sewer lift station rehabilitation. Officials also confirmed the city’s 2024 financial audit was completed with no major issues. In addition, the Pro Watercross event will return to Lake Verona August 14 through 16, bringing increased tourism and economic activity to the area.

Sebring Police are investigating a shooting Wednesday afternoon on Steiner Avenue that left one man hospitalized in stable condition. Authorities say the incident followed an argument inside a residence. The suspect, Alfredo Martin, was arrested without incident and is facing attempted murder and firearm charges. Police say this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.

Residents in Fort Meade are raising concerns about a proposed 1,300-acre data center that could be built by 2028.
