Sebring police arrested two suspects following a reported burglary at a home on Lakeview Drive. Officers responded after a caller reported someone loading items from an unoccupied residence. Police say 39-year-olds Ronald Durfee and Kayla Tyrney were taken into custody after exiting the home, where the owner was out of town and had not given permission for anyone to enter or remove items. Investigators reported stolen property was found in a vehicle at the scene. Both suspects were charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft under seven hundred fifty dollars.

Highlands County Fire Rescue crews were on scene at the Highlands County Landfill shortly after 2:30pm yesterday, battling a fire at the Recycling Transfer Facility. The fire involved a metal building with three sides and a roof. Multiple fire engines, tankers, and command units responded. Officials confirmed the Class 1 cell was not affected and the landfill remained open. Fire rescue says updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

The Highlands County Seniors and Law Enforcement Together Council will hold its next monthly meeting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, at the Sebring Recreation Club. Featured speaker Dr. Brian Burke, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon in Sebring, will share tips and habits to help improve orthopedic health. The free event is open to the public, with coffee and doughnuts provided.

The West Sebring Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual Chicken BBQ fundraiser, tomorrow, on February 7th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Station 9 on Longview Court in Sebring. Meals include half a chicken, beans, coleslaw, and coffee or tea, with desserts available through a bake sale. Advance tickets are still available today for fourteen dollars, with tickets priced at sixteen dollars at the event. Meals are available for dine-in or takeout while supplies last. All proceeds will benefit local volunteer firefighters.
