A 26-year-old woman, Jennifer Chavez, was arrested after police say she stole a vehicle from a Publix parking lot in Sebring. According to the Sebring Police Department, Chavez had been selling flan outside the North Sebring Publix before entering the vehicle and driving off when sales were unsuccessful. Officers responded Friday afternoon to the North Sebring Publix where the victim reported their unlocked Nissan Altima had been taken. Chavez was later located in Lake Placid with help from the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Placid Police. She was taken into custody without incident, and the vehicle was recovered.

A 20-year-old Avon Park woman is facing multiple charges after deputies say she tried to flee during a traffic stop and struck a patrol vehicle. The incident happened Thursday night along Memorial Drive, where deputies had been tracking the same car from prior attempted stops. Authorities say the driver, Tori Leshawn Ki Hester, reversed into a patrol car and later resisted arrest, leading to multiple struggles before she was taken into custody. She now faces charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and drug-related offenses.

The Sun ‘N Lake Improvement District is continuing preparations for its “Salute to America 250” event, set for July 3 to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.
