The Florida Highway Patrol has arrested Jorge Luis Pujol, charging him with DUI manslaughter following a deadly motorcycle crash in Highlands County. Troopers say the crash happened just before midnight February 25th on U.S. Highway 98 when a passenger, identified as Jasmine Gomez of Avon Park, fell from the motorcycle after Pujol accelerated following a U-turn. Gomez later died from her injuries. Investigators say Pujol showed signs of alcohol use and initially refused sobriety and blood tests before a warrant allowed a blood draw at the jail. Troopers say Pujol also has a prior DUI conviction from 2013.
A Lake Placid man has been sentenced to prison after a deadly DUI crash that killed a teenage driver. Thomas Joseph Raulerson, 44, pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter and DUI property damage in connection to a May 22, 2025 crash on U.S. Highway 98. Investigators say Raulerson, whose blood alcohol level was reported at .464, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a car driven by 16-year-old Serenity Neiderman, who died in the crash. A judge sentenced Raulerson to 14 years in state prison, followed by one year of probation, substance abuse treatment, community service, and a lifetime driver’s license revocation.
In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Military Sea Services Museum in Sebring is featuring a special exhibit honoring women who served in the U.S. military. Throughout the month of March, visitors can view biographies and photos of both local and national women whose service made a lasting impact. The exhibit celebrates the contributions and sacrifices of veteran women across several military branches. Admission is free, and the museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 1402 Roseland Avenue.
A Winter Haven woman is facing several charges after police say she stabbed her boyfriend and repeatedly tried to escape custody. Authorities say Unique Isaac stabbed the victim early Monday at an apartment on Gowan Drive while two children were nearby. Police say Isaac later slipped out of handcuffs and escaped a patrol car before running off. Officers eventually detained her, and she was taken to jail on charges including domestic battery with a deadly weapon, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.
