>>> Lakeshore Mall Sold
The Lakeshore Mall has been officially sold. ICA Properties, Inc. out of Odessa, Texas, bought the facility with hopes to modernize it and use some of the vacant space inside. The company owns hotels, radio stations, retail strip centers, manufactured housing and energy and insurance businesses. General Manager Greg Morgan says he and his staff like the property, and want to encourage local and national tenants to bring their business to the facility. They own properties in various cities and states around the country, and this is their first property in the state of Florida.
>>>Motorist killed in single vehicle accident
A 52 year old motorist was killed in a single vehicle accident on the Sebring Parkway Tuesday morning. Officials say the driver was traveling east bound at a little after 7:30, when her car veered into the west bound lanes and came to a stop near Spring Garden Road. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Officials say she may have had a medical emergency while driving, but this remains under investigation.
>>> Firefighters recognized
Two Highlands County Firefighters are being recognized for their quick responses during a residential structure fire on July 28. It happened in a home on Lakeview Drive, and officials say an occupant inside the home was injured. Trenton Carlisle and Nicole Beard administered aid to the home owner which helped save her life. Weeks later, they both crossed paths with the home owner and were able to speak with her family and hear her progress. Fire officials commend the two firefighters for their diligent work and seeing her progress is a reminder that rigorous training and quick thinking truly make a difference.

Veterans and first responders will be celebrated at Vet-A-BrationFamily Fun Day, Saturday, September 26th, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Fireman’s Field in Sebring. The event will promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention, with live music, food, games, prizes, raffles, vendors and more. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
