If you have unused or expired prescription medications at home, you can safely dispose of them during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 24th. The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office will accept drop-offs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its offices in Sebring and Avon Park. Liquids, syringes, over-the-counter medications and vitamins will not be accepted.
A Highlands County business built around helping seniors clear out their homes has hit a roadblock. Grandson Services has been ordered to stop hauling furniture and other bulky items until it obtains the proper county permit. Officials say the business can resume those services once certified, but regular household trash must be handled by the county’s contracted waste hauler.
Viva! Sebring returns to downtown this Sunday with international food, live music, cultural performances and family entertainment. The free festival runs from 11am to 6pm along South Commerce Avenue, which will be closed between Circle Park Drive and South Pine Street from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Detours will be in place, so drivers should plan ahead.
With Halloween just around the corner, one Florida woman is accused of helping herself to some porch decorations — but this pumpkin caper didn’t end with a treat. Polk County deputies say 69-year-old Christine Ruth Freeman stole two pumpkin-shaped cushions worth 60 dollars from a Davenport home. After denying it, a detective reportedly found the cushions sitting on her golf cart. She faces burglary and theft charges and is scheduled for arraignment November 10th.
