Plans for a new firehouse in Lake Placid have been delayed due to title issues with the land purchase. County commissioners approved a contract back in April to buy seven acres along U.S. 27 North for nearly $800,000, with the site intended for a new firehouse and EMS station. County Attorney Sherry Sutphen says the closing date has been extended while the title company works to resolve the issues. Officials stress the county will honor the contract and move forward once the title is cleared, as the project is considered vital for expanding fire services and lowering insurance costs for local homeowners.

A Central Florida school is accused of fraud. A federal lawsuit against Full Sail University was unsealed last week. It accuses the Winter Park school of defrauding the government. Plaintiffs say the school lied about how many graduates were gainfully employed. That allegedly allowed the school to get over 300-million dollars in federal financial assistance it did not deserve. Full Sail officials deny doing anything wrong, and they tell Fox 35 the lawsuit is misguided and based on mischaracterizations.
