State Road 66 south of Sebring was closed for a time last night following a grinding two vehicle crash at the intersection of ’66 and County Road 635. Early reports indicate a car and a pickup collided there about 6:30.
At least three people are said to have been flown to trauma centers with injuries from the crash.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers have released no names or other details on the accident.
It will be a busy day for Highlands County commissoiners today. At their regular meeting this morning, they’ll again take up the contentious issue of a proposed housing development off Sparta Road. Neighbors are unhappy about the project, pointing to noise and the potential impact it will have on an already busy road.
In other action, the commission will look at designating November as Veterans’ Month in Highlands County and a proclamation recognizing the 10-year anniversary of Highlands as a Purple Heart County.
At 1:30 this afternoon, Commissioners will hold a special workshop to discuss the influx of requests to put up mobile home parks – and how that fits with the way commissioners and citizens would like to see Highlands County Develop.
Three decades ago, a former commission eliminated nearly a quarter million platted mobile home lots, in an effort to change the way housing might develop here.
Highlands County Sheriff’s detectives are looking for a couple of people who burglarized the press box at the Durrah Martin Baseball Complex in Avon Park.
The two were caught on camera – they appear to be young, white males. Authorities believe at least one of the suspects cut themselves climbing through the window they broke to gain entry.
Within the past few months, there have been multiple burglaries at the complex. Pictures of the two may be seen on the Highlands County Sheriff’s office Facebook page.
