Four teenagers are facing charges after authorities say they forced their way into a Sebring home and threatened the occupant’s life. Investigators with the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office report the group returned to the home armed with a handgun, pointed the weapon at the victim, and ransacked parts of the residence. Three suspects are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, while a fourth faces additional battery and criminal mischief charges.

Authorities safely secured live military explosives discovered inside a Lake Placid home Tuesday afternoon. The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue responded after a resident reported finding old ammunition, which was later identified as a live mortar round and hand grenade dating back to the 1940s. State and military bomb experts removed the ordnance and transported it to the Avon Park Air Force Range for detonation, with no injuries reported.

The City of Sebring has filed a foreclosure lawsuit against the downtown Family Dollar property on North Ridgewood Drive, citing years of unresolved code violations. City officials say daily fines for maintenance and landscaping issues began in 2022 and have now climbed past $200,000, continuing to grow by $200 a day. The lawsuit asks the court to order the sale of the property if the owner fails to pay the accumulated liens.

Plans are moving forward for Sadie’s Place, a new mixed-use plaza planned for North Ridgewood Drive in Sebring. Developer Ken LeBlanc says several businesses are already lined up to lease space, including a restaurant with outdoor seating, along with a food truck and Airstream-style retail option. Permits are expected to be submitted in early January, with financing and groundbreaking targeted for early February.
