A piece of racing history will be on display this Wednesday in downtown Sebring. The Crosley Hot Shot that won the 1950 Sam Collier Memorial will be showcased on the Circle as the city marks the 75th anniversary of the world’s first sports car endurance race, and the first European-style sports car race held in North America. The celebration includes vintage, custom, and race cars, a kids’ Power Wheels race, special presentations, and a fireworks finale over Lake Jackson, presented by Sebring International Raceway. The event runs from 1 to 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Sebring Police have arrested 31-year-old Thomas James Craig in connection with a break-in at Mae Lee’s Deli on North Ridgewood Drive. Investigators say the burglary happened overnight between December 10th and 11th. According to police, the suspect forced entry through a back door, damaged a cash register, and stole approximately $3,500 in cash, along with snacks and a beverage. Surveillance video helped officers quickly identify Craig, who was taken into custody and now faces multiple charges, including burglary, grand theft, and criminal mischief.

Hardee County will open a warming station for residents in need of shelter from cold weather beginning Tuesday night, December 30th, at 8 p.m. The station will operate overnight from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on December 30th and 31st at the Grainge Building in Pioneer Park in Zolfo Springs. Officials say cots and water will be provided, pets are not allowed, and sex offenders must report to the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office. Residents are encouraged to share this information with anyone who may need assistance.

With New Year’s Eve approaching, Highlands County residents are being reminded to plan ahead for a safe ride home. Safety officials and Mothers Against Drunk Driving emphasize that impaired driving is completely preventable and remains a major cause of serious crashes during holiday celebrations. Drivers are urged to use a designated driver, rideshare, or other safe transportation. Authorities say one responsible decision can save lives and help ensure a safe start to the new year.
