Highlands County got two new residents yesterday, who only will celebrate their actual birthays once every four years. A couple of Leap Year Babies were born yesterday at Advent Health Sebring. Officials there say the first Leaper was a girl, the second Leapling was a boy.
They say moms and kids all are doing just fine.
Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies had to work a bit yesterday to round up a couple of suspects.
First, 25-year-old Vincent Luna was arrested after a short search. He was wanted in connection with a domestic violence situation in the Desoto City area south of Sebring.
Later, a Polk County man was picked up in connection with a home-invasion style robbery in the Avon Park Lakes area. His name has not been released.
Details of the captures have not been forthcoming.
Practice sessions will continue today for the USAC races being held at the Sebring International Raceway. Participants in the Porsce Sprint Challenge North America races, the Skip Barber Formula series and the Blue Marble Radical cup all will be on track.
Qualifying and racing will be held tomorrow. That event runs through Sunday.
Although this is not a ticketed event, those grabbing lunch at Seven- The Sebring Raceway Hotel – can see some of the action at the famous Hairpin Turn.
Trade school students at South Florida State College will be able to get some additional help thanks to a new scholarship program. Qualified students will be elligible for $500, thorough a new BEKA endowment.
The program was established by resident Bert Horowitz in cooperaton with the SFSC Foundation.
