News Update for 6/28/23

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory today for a dozen Florida counties including Highlands, Hardee, Polk and Desoto.
Temperatures are forecast to go into the middle 90s with heat index numbers as high as 109.
For those who have to be outside, experts recommend wearing light, loose fitting clothing, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas and most importantly, drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
The advisory is in effect from noon until 6pm today, when afternoon rains are expected to cool things down a bit.

It appears the City of Charm is in great financial shape. That was the word at the regular Avon Park city council meeting in twin reports from representatives of Clifton Larsen Allen and the city’s outside accountant Mike Brindelson.
Jenifer Fowler of C-L-A told the council the audit was on time and one of the smoothest the city has had in quite awhile. Brindlson said his report showed all indicators showing positive.
City Manager Mark Schader had words of praise for Financial Director Melody Sauerhafer and her team in putting the city in such a good financial position.
