BACK2SCHOOL

It was back to the classroom today for youngsters in the Highlands County School system. School officials say they are expecting the rolls to increase a couple hundred students over last year, but it will take a while before they can get an official count.
Motorists are reminded to watch out for youngsters walking or riding their bikes home from school this afternoon, and to slow down in school zones.

SHOOTING II

More details are being released about that shooting Monday at the Park Crest Apartment Complex in Sebring. Police in the city on the circle say it was 22-year-old Elia J. Cruz that was found and arrested in connection with the case.
The name and age of the victim in the shooting has not been released.

AP AIRPORT

It appears the end may be in sight for the Avon Park city council in their efforts to turn over the operation of their airport to a private firm. First, Avon Park City Manager Mark Schrader told the council, it appears the city has been approved for a Federal Avaiation Administraition AIPP grant. However, it could be as much as two months for the official confirmation might trickle down out of that federal buraucracy.
Officials of Florida Airport Management also told the council, they would pick up the tab for consulting attornies working on the project.

BOMBING RANGE

Oh and yes, there’s more air traffic again this week as training continues at the Avon Park Air Force Range. There’s no word on who’s involved in the exercises or what kind of aircraft.
Officials say only that it will continue from mid-mornings to late in the evenings for the balance of the week.
