It’s the government observance of Labor Day today, that means municipal offices, banks and some other businesses will be closed.
There also are no classes at the Highlands County schools. Motorists are urged to watch out for youngsers who may be out at play during normal school hours.
Highlands County Sheriff’s detectives have released more information about that homicide in Desoto City. A wellness check at an Oak Bend Avenue address revealed a 37-year-old woman apparently had been slain at her home. 36-year-old Tamario Leron Sanders has been charged with a number of counts in that case, including first degree murder and grand theft.
A death investigation led lawmen to another homicide in the Avon Park area. The body of 63-year-old Douglas Lieland was found inside a home on San Jose Avenue. Detectives believe he died after a scuffle with his assailant. Anyone with information in that incident is asked to call the Highlands County Sheriff’s office.
