A stolen car chase late last night had some helicopters flying low over homes in the northern part of the County … Polk County authorities called for assistance chasing a stolen vehicle heading south into Highlands County. Our deputies caught up with the vehicle with help from Polk County helicopters keeping pace with the car. The perp fled and was corralled and arrested by Highlands County deputies.
Downtown Sebring latest party is on for tomorrow night, and the Chamber of Commerce brings you “Gobble Wobble,” on the Circle from 1pm till 8pm. The event’s organizers say they’ll have handcrafted beer, wine and spirit tastings from around the state, music and vendors.
Highway 27 claimed another life late Wednesday afternoon when a 59 year old Avon Park pedestrian was run over near the corner of 27 and Lake Isis Avenue, north of the Walmart in Avon Park. Police reports say the man was trying to cross the highway when he was hit by an SUV driven by an 18 year old from Frostproof. The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital and later died of his injuries.

Highlands County Engineer J.D. Langford has a new title – he’s now Assistant County Administrator. The County Commission recognized that change by giving Langford his new desk name plate at this week’s meeting. Lanford will remain in charge of the County Engineering Department, but now adds supervision duties across the County’s 400 employees.
Up in Frostproof, they have a new Mayor and City Council member. The Council voted this week to install Adam Greenway as a member, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of Mayor Jon Albert. Albert resigned effective this month to run for the Florida Legislature. He won election in District 48. The City Council then voted to appoint Mike Hutto as mayor.
