Welcome to Day Two of the 2022 Hurricane Season – and we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you that kerfuffle off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula down off Mexico has an 80% chance of re-organizing and maybe gaining the name “Alex” over the next five days. Whether or not it gets a name, it’s heading in the general direction of the Florida Peninsula and likely to become nothing more than a rainmaker here over the weekend. There’s another trough of low pressure the Hurricane Center says has a minimal chance of turning into something troublesome just north of the Bahamas, but it’s likely headed out to sea. Just so it knows we’re watching … and you do as well.
On a weather-related note, The state’s “disaster preparedness” sales tax holiday is underway NOW through June 10. This a good time to stock up on critical supplies you may need to get or replace in preparation of this year’s storm season. And for the first time, pet supplies will be included – so stock up for Fluffy and the cats!
Sun N Lakes South is growing … the recreation district south of Lake Placid was expanded by the Highlands County Commission this week – from 2,815 lots to over 8,000. The expansion will relieve the County of the obligatin to sell access rights to the District’s boat ramp to nonresidents, and will add over 5,000 properties to the District’s assessment base for revenue purposes. Sun N Lakes of Lake Placid will now extend all the way down to Highway 70 and outward to County Highway 29.
