It may not come as news, but local rents are going up. A new survey by Construction Coverage shows that since last year, rents have jumped more than 11-percent locally.
The report indicates that the average rent in the Avon Park – Sebring metro area was $1,134. That’s now jumped to $1,261.
Still, that’s not as big an increase as shown across the country. Nationally, rents have jumped some 12.6-percent over the past year.

Hillsborough County’s Craig Hilgenberg was arrested yesterday morning in Lakeland on I-4 West at mile marker 32.
Florida Highway Patrol reports show the 37-year-old refused to pull over, and troopers had to use a PIT maneuver to get him to stop.
Hilgenberg refused to take a breathalyzer or do a field sobriety test, but troopers say his breath smelled of alcohol and he was slurring his words.
