If you’ve been looking for a job – today’s your day. CareerSource Heartland is hosting their Spring Hiring Event at the Bert Harris Agricultural Civic Center from 11am until 1:00.
Reportedly more than 40 companies will be at the event with positions ranging from unskilled and skilled jobs to management and administrative positions.
Officials are urging hopefuls to come dressed for success with resumes in hand – noting they expect on-site interviews and even same-day hiring.
The event will commence at 11am with veterans placed first in line.

After turning down a deal with the Sebring Firemen that would have seen Astroturf installed at the football stadium used by Sebring Senior High School, school board member Jan Shoop wants to know what’s going to happen next.
Under provisions of the pact, the contract will close out in 15 years, leaving it unclear where the Blue streaks might play.
Shoop has called for a workshop to discuss steps the board might take in the interim to provide a facility for the youngsters.

It appears the announcement of the planned NuCOR Steel manufacturing facility in southern Polk County is spurring some changes here. Highlands County commissioners took preliminary steps Tuesday to change an 8-acre parcel on Highway 27 currently used as an orange grove to an Industrial Zoning designation on the county’s comprehensive land use management plan.

An accident overnight caused some damage to a car and death for a local hog. Apparently the car hit the hog shortly before 9:00 last night near the intersection of County Road 29 and Old Parker Island Road south of Lake Placid,
The driver, who was not identified, reportedly was not injured.
