The second suspect in a deadly Placid Lakes shooting is now in custody. Investigators say 38-year-old Leon Jarrell Simms turned himself in and faces second-degree murder charges. Deputies say Simms was the gunman, while a second suspect, already jailed, drove the truck. The victim, 30-year-old Marvin Lekeith Sholtz Jr., called a friend for help, saying he was being followed. A witness reported seeing shots fired from the truck before Sholtz crashed into a home. Authorities say both suspects are facing murder charges.
A stolen construction loader from Miami has been recovered in Sebring, leading to an arrest. Deputies say the equipment was tracked to a property on Grand Concourse Road using a GPS device. The property owner told investigators he unknowingly bought the loader for $10,000 after meeting the seller in Lake Placid. Authorities say the equipment is worth up to $45,000. Detectives identified the suspect as Gerald Mincey and took him into custody. He now faces charges including dealing in stolen property and fraud.
