The effort to recall three Avon Park City Council members is moving to the next phase after none of the officials resigned before the state deadline. A special recall election will now be scheduled within the next 30 to 60 days, giving voters the chance to decide whether to remove Mayor Garrett Anderson, Deputy Mayor Jim Barnard, and Councilwoman Brittany McGuire. The ballot will also include replacement candidates if any of the officials are recalled. City officials estimate the special election will cost Avon Park about $20,000.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has identified the three men who died after an airboat capsized Monday where the Istokpoga Canal meets the Kissimmee River. Investigators say the victims were Ricardo Chub of Guatemala, Jesus Manuel Garcia Reyes of Mexico, and Edwin Ramiro Caal of Guatemala. The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine what caused the airboat to take on water and overturn.

A motorcyclist is facing charges after deputies say he was caught driving 123 miles per hour in DeSoto County. Investigators say Clayton Jacobs allegedly performed a wheelie in traffic near Nocatee, causing another driver to take evasive action and damage a tire, all in front of a deputy. Authorities say Jacobs then sped away before being stopped and arrested. He is now charged with reckless driving.
