A Frostproof woman has been arrested following an alleged confrontation with a 71-year-old neighbor. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Jennifer Nemeth was accused of yelling at children playing in the street before an argument escalated and she allegedly pushed and chest-bumped the woman. Nemeth was arrested Friday and faces a felony charge of battery on a person 65 or older.
Highlands County commissioners are expected to vote Tuesday on a proposed property tax rate of 7.6 mills, or $7.60 for every $1,000 of assessed property value, as part of the 2026-2027 budget process. The rate sets the maximum the county can levy under state law, though commissioners can lower it before the budget is finalized later this year. The proposed budget also reflects rising property values and continued discussions over future county spending.
The Sebring City Council will review a proposed renovation plan for the Max Long Sports Complex during Tuesday evening’s meeting. The $14 million project includes synthetic turf fields, new lighting, parking, playgrounds, and upgraded amenities.
