A proposed BJ’s Wholesale Club is one step closer to becoming a reality in Sebring. City officials have received a site plan for a 106,000-square-foot warehouse club on U.S. 27, just north of Keiber Boulevard. The proposal also includes three future outparcels for additional businesses, though no tenants have been announced. The site plan is now under review by city department heads.
With Highlands County students heading back to school next week, the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to brush up on Florida’s school bus laws. On two-lane roads and multi-lane roads with a paved median, traffic in both directions must stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing. On divided highways with a raised barrier or at least five feet of unpaved median, only traffic traveling behind the bus must stop. Deputies say following these laws helps keep students safe as the new school year begins.
Placid Lakes residents have until August 10th to submit a letter or email to the Florida Public Service Commission regarding the proposed sale of Placid Lakes Utilities. The commission says the sale could affect future water and wastewater rates. Residents should include Docket Number 20260031-WS with their comments. All feedback will become part of the public record and be considered as the PSC reviews the proposal.
A Winter Haven pastor and hospice chaplain has been arrested on multiple felony charges following a child exploitation investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives say 42-year-old Timothy Chaneyfield allegedly communicated with and sexually abused a 14-year-old boy after meeting him through a dating app. He faces charges including lewd battery on a minor, traveling to meet a minor, and interference with custody.
