The trial of TJ Wiggins is moving forward in Polk County over the 2020 Frostproof killings of three men. On the second day of testimony, a medical examiner detailed the victims’ fatal injuries, while prosecutors showed surveillance video from businesses visited by Wiggins and the victims that night. Investigators also described evidence that helped lead them to Wiggins. He faces three first-degree murder charges.
The City of Sebring is proposing a new overlay district for Washington Heights to preserve the historic neighborhood while making it easier to develop vacant lots. About 35% of the area’s 367 parcels are vacant, with many too small to meet current zoning requirements. The City Council will consider the proposal October 6th.
Downtown Sebring is going pink October 3rd for the third annual Light the Circle Pink. Students in Florida will have to deal with new guidelines for artificial intelligence. The Florida Board of Education approved new guidelines yesterday for K-through-12 students and those in public colleges. The guidelines say students between pre-K and 12th grade can only use AI under adult supervision. Also, parents must opt in before an AI tool is used for instructional use. Education Commissioner Henry Mack says the goal is to find a middle ground between banning AI and giving it unfettered access.
