Highlands County school officials have announced that like other school systems across the state, they did receive a hoax email. Local authorities worked with the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office on the matter,
It was determined that the hoax was not a credible threat. However, out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement assessed campuses that received the email to verify that there was no threat.
It appears the email did not originate locally, and it was intended to cause disruptions to schools across Florida.
There was no danger to Highlands County schools at any time and no interruptions to the instructional day.
Highlands officials did not reveal the nature of the email or to whom it was sent.
