Firefighters across Highlands County were busy overnight. First, units from the City of Sebring responded to a warehouse fire on Commercial Drive just north of the Fairmount shopping plaza.
The call went out shortly after 7:30.
There were no injuries reported. Cause of the fire was not released. It’s unknown what was in the warehouse.
Units from Desoto City were called to a mobile home fire in Lorida early this morning. That one occurred on irishg Drive shortly before 5am. According to reports, the trailer was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Apparently the occupants were able to excape without incident. No injuries were reported. Cause remains under investigation.
Preparations continue for the 2024 edition of the Highlands County Fair. In addition to the standard fare such as booths, exhibits and livestock displays, organizers say Ridehoffer Rides will have a number of new attractions.
The fair will open Friday evening.
Highlands County Health officials are issuing another alert about blue-green algae. The toxic organisms have been found floating in the water off the Lake Glenada boat ramp in Avon Park, and the Lake Placid boat ramp.
The alert comes after water samples were taken in the areas earlier this month. Residents are urged not to come in contact with the toxins, and to keep pets away as well.
