News Update for 10/1/21

The firm SmartAsset has released their latest study of the places receiving the most incoming investment. In Florida, Highlands County ranked 53rd of the state’s 67 counties. The business growth here was set at 2.4-percent with a Gross Domestic Product of about $103 million dollars.
Highlands ranked below Desoto, Hardeee and Okechobee counties. Polk County made the Top 10 in the state with a business growth of 5.5-percent and a GDP growth of $642 million dollars.

The city of Avon Park is a bit closer to allowing an electric scooter rental firm in the City of Charm. However, unlike the city of Sebring, Avon Park’s ordinance will come with a number of rules and regulations. The new measure also will set rules of the road for privately-owned electric scooters as well.
Council members have approved a second first reading of the expanded ordinance earlier this week. They stopped short of dealing with golf carts – noting that all but street-legal machines are not allowed on the city’s thoroughfares.

The latest motorsports event gets underway today at Sebring International Raceway as competitors from the SRO Fanatec GT World Challenge take to the track. Formerly known as the SPEED World Challenge, it’s the first time in more than a decade the group has run the historic 3.7 mile circuit.
Slated to run today are cars in the Pirelli GT-4 America Sprint, GT World Challenge, and TC America series. The World Challenge runs through Sunday.

Sad news from Frostproof. Officials at the Ramon Theater have announced they have pulled the plug on two of three upcoming shows. Both The Mushroom Brotherhood event and the Johnny Cash Tribute show have been cancelled.
Ticket refunds now are being offered. It appears the Night at the Oscars Gala still is being held. The special guest Emcee there will be Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
