News Update for 10/25/21

Early voting started today for the Avon Park municipal election. Four candidates are seeking the three seats that were left open when none of the incumbents filed to run for office.
All of the candidates are new commers.
On the ballot are Ann Foster, Michelle Mercure, Brittany McGuire and Bernice Taylor.
The polls have been set up in the Avon Park city council chambers with early voting to run through Saturday. Election Day is set for November 2nd.

Almost a year to the day from his 2020 murder, arrests have been made in connection with the death of James Little. His badly beaten body was found at his Ramona Avenue home in Sebring. He died five days later.
Highlands County Sheriff’s officials now say 24-year-old Brittany Lee Andrus and 20-year-old Tyler Ethan Best have been charged in connection with the case. They face counts of second degree murder during commission of a burglary, burglary with battery and grand theft auto.

A Lake Placid trucker reportedly has been involved in a seven-vehicle pile-up in Sarasota. According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, the 23-year-old driver of the semi-truck apparently failed to see traffic slowing in front of him on Interstate 75.
The tractor-trailr rig hit a car in front of him, starting a chain reaction accident in which at least one person was critically injured.
Charges in the incident are pending completion of the accident report.

You may hear more of the sounds of freedom today, as jets fly overhead. Reportedly they are using the Avon Park Bombing Range, with sortees slated until later tonight.
Officials a the Air Force Range have declined to say what kind of aircraft or what kind of training is underway.
