News Update for 12/30/21

There was some patchy dense fog in Highlands County and a dozen other Florida counties this morning from Tarpon Springs to Naples. Officials say despite limited visibility in some areas, there were no traffic or other problems to report.
The advisory was issued shortly after 4:00 this morning and was extended to 10AM.

AdventHealth Foundation is in line for a $15,000 grant from Duke Energy Florida. The money is part of a quarter million dollars in funding from the power company to help students, educators and families across the Sunshine State.
The local money will be used to create a new Wellness Center in Sebring. The facility will feature specialized classes, simulation training, cooking demonstrations, lifestyle lectures and healthcare screenings among other features.

Officials of the Lakeland-based Publix grocery chain say they will start offering paid parental leave to employees who are new parents.
Eligible full-time and part-time workers will be able to take off the time during the first year of the birth or adoption of a child, starting with the new year.
The privately-held, employee-owned company has 225,000 workers at almost 1,300 stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
Publix didn’t offer details on how much paid time off new parents would get. The new benefits come as retailers across the U.S. are facing a worker shortage and trying to retain employees.
