News Update for 12/5/22

It appears that the Sebring location of Bed, Bath and Beyond soon will be closing. The chain earlier this year announced that dozens of its locations would be shuttered as part of a reorganizational move.
Store officials say their inventory now is on sale, with a sell off of store furniture and fixtures to follow. No official closing date has yet been announced.

Kaylee Tuck will he handling a gavel when the Florida Legislature re-convenes. The District 83 State House representative will be the chair of the Choice and Innovation Sub Committee.
There, they will review education bills and issues before they go before the Florida House. Highlands County is part of District 83.

A Tennessee man reportedly has drowned in a Lake Wales incident. Police in the Crown Jewel of the Ridge say they recovered the body of 31-year-old Christopher Shoemaker from Crystal Lake.
Friends said they last saw Shoemaker in the water there Wednesday evening, swimming. When he did not return, they called authorities.
Police say foul play is not suspected.

A Winter Haven man reportedly was killed in a traffic crash east of Lake Wales. Polk County Sheriff’s investigators say it appears the man was pulling his motorcycle out to pass on Highway 60 East, out to pass slower traffic, and slammed into the side of a truck.
The biker was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
