News Update for 2/23/21

Sebring firefighters were called out early this morning to extinguish the flames at a house on Pommegranite Avenue. The home is just off the Historic Circle in downtown Sebring.
Officials say the house was about 75-percent involved when units arrived at the scene. No injuries were reported and the state fire marshal’s office has been called in to determine the cause of the blaze.

Avon Park city council members spent better than three hours last night working through another presentation from represntatives of Florida Airport Management. The firm brought eleven presenters either in person or via computer to sell the council on the idea of a 30-year lease agreement that would permit the company to operate the facility with everything from runing the fixed base operation to growing vast amounts of hemp on the property.
The council gave the tentative go-ahead, then scheduled a meeting for next Monday to obtain a special legal council to go over the proposed contract.

Highlands County officials have announced they have received a portion of the vaccine allocation that was originally scheduled to have been here last week.
In response, an innoculation event has been added for today, in an effort to make up for the one cancelled last week. Residents who had an appointment for this past Friday should already have been notified about today’s events.
Others reportedly will be caught up in a Thursday event. Residents who are not yet scheduled for shots can get on the waiting list by applying through the county’s internet web page.

Hardee County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 55-year old suspect in an attempted weekend homicide. Reportedly the incident occurred in the area of Kelly Roberts Road near Zolfo Springs.
Arrested was Charles Clyde Knight. Reports indicate that Knight drove his truck alongside the victim’s vehicle, threatening to kill him. Knight allegeldy then fired off a round.
The bullet missed the man but apparently hit his truck. The assailent then apparently fled the scene. Deputies located Knight pulling into his residence. A subsequent search found a handgun.
Knight faces counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder, Discharging a Firearm from a Vehicle and cShooting into an Occupied Vehicle.
