Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies are turning to the public to locate a couple of brothers. 17-year-old Rain Michael Huffman and his brother 16-year-old Larry Dean Huffman are being sought in connection with a number of vehicle theft and burglary cases in the Sebring area.
Larry Huffman was the teen thought to have drown in Lake Verona several weeks ago – but turned up unharmed. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the Huffman brothers is asked to call the Highlands County Sheriff’s office or confidential Crimestoppers line at 1-800=226-TIPS,
Information could lead to a cash reward.

It appears Avon Park won’t be able to lease their airport facility until sometime next year. Officials at the Federal Aviation Administration say the matter has been turned over to their compliance department for review – and that may take some time.
Apparently, it may the first such project in the United States and could set precedent for other municipalities who want to turn over the operation of their facilities to a private sector company.

While Harder Hall continues to languish west of Sebring, it looks like the city of Lake Wales may have the refurbishment of the WalesBuilt Hotel underway after the first of the year. Officials of the Buena Vista Hospitality Group say they are within 90 days of having a loan commitment to start the Walesbuilt rehabilitation project.
They say problems during the coronavirus has hampered progress on the project.

Two people died when a small plane crashed and burst into flames when it hit the water in a Polk County lake. Auburndale police officers and firefighters found a small fire burning on the surface of Lake Arietta when they arrived at the scene.
Witnesses told authorities that the amphibious plane was flying low over the lake when its right wing lowered and clipped the water, causing the plane to crash at a steep angle and burst into flames.
The body of a woman was found shortly after the crash, while the body of a man was found four hours later. The National Transportation Safety Board announced that it is investigating the cause.
