If you want to purchase a home in Highlands County, new statistics show that area lenders will make it work. A new report by "Stressa," looking at home purchase approval ratings The Avon Park-Sebring Metro Area, show it came in at just over 79-percent.
That lags behind a national approval rating of more than 86-percent.
US Home Mortgage Disclosure Act numbers note that in the second half of 2020, interest rates fell below three-percent, fueling the boom.
In Highlands, the median loan amount for purchase was set at $135,000 that’s below the national average of $235,000.

Racing action continues today in Highlands County. The 9th Annual Snowbird Nationals open at the Avon Park Mowerplex with competitors from as far away as Texas and Ohio at the facility on the west end of the Avon Park Executive Airport.

Practice begins at 1:00 with heat racing to start at 3:00. Feature racing commences this evening at six. The Nationals will continue again tomorrow.
The WEC Prologue begins tomorrow at the Sebring International Raceway. In addition to watching test and tune sessions for World Endurance Championship cars, there will be racing action from the Porsche GT3 and Porsche Cayman Cup cars.
That all cane be viewed at Seven-The Sebring Raceway Hotel. The Prologue runs Saturday and Sunday.

There has been some rain in the area, however, officials caution that dry season still is in full swing. According to the Florida Forest Service, while most of the state is listed as low risk Highlands is one of nine counties listed as moderate or higher under the Keech-Byrum Drought index.
Residents are asked to be cautious with combustibles and outdoor burning.
