HCSO BODY CAM
After a successful month long pilot program, Highlands County Sheriff’s officials say they now have started body cam use for deputies and corrections officers across the department. Beginning in February, a number of patrol and detention deputies as well as a number of school resource officers. tested the Axon body cameras without incident.
They now have deployed 175 of the units throughout the department. The program cost about $1.4 million to activate.

SEBRING FIRE
At least two people were injured in an early morning fire in Sebring. Units were called to the Water’s Edge Apartments shortly before 1:30 this morning.
Residents were evacuated while Sebring Fiefighters took care of the situation. Reportedly, two people were transported to the hospital – no word as to their condition.
No cause has been listed for the fire, no dollar damage estimate was released.

AP SPLASH PAD
Avon Park city officials are moving ahead with plans to install a "splash pad" at Donaldson Park. Sitting as the Community Redevelopment Agency Board, city council members instructed staff to move ahead and get quotes for a 40-foot concrete circle at the park that would shoot jets of water on participants.
The facility would be located near pavillions, where parents could watch kids running through the water to cool off. Authorities say they’d like to have it ready by this summer.

A planned Easter Egg Hunt at Agape Farms won’t be happening this weekend. Owners of the Sebring area facility say they have recieved a "cease and desist" order from the Highlands County Zoning department.
There had been some negotiations during the week, however, county offices are closed today in observance of Good Friday. A post on social media seems to indicate the facility will be closed to the public until further notice.
