There was a shooting overnight in the Highway Park community, south of Lake Placid. Highlands County Sheriff’s officials say they still are unraveling exactly what happened.
It apparently occured about 2:30 this morning on E.A. Smith Avenue. Reportedly two people suffered what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities say the investigation is continuing.

Those who want to meet the candidates in this year’s upcoming local election will have an opportunity tonight, as those who are up for election have been invited to a meet-and-greet.
The function will be held at the Sun ‘N Lake Community Center on Edgewater Drive from 5-8 this evening.
Currently, there are four contested seats, including the Highlands County Sheriff’s office, Superintendent of Schools and two school board seats.
Other incumbents are running unopposed.

Officials of the Avon Park Community Redevelopment Agency say they will try to bring a new beautification project to the City of Charm.
Director Shawn Holiday has proposed that the CRA offer a limited selectoin of native wildflowers to property owners on Main Street to beautify their section of the mile-long mall.
Owners would be responsible for maintaining their plantings.
