News Update for 3/31/;21

How big is your house? Chances are, if you live around here, it’s smaller than the national average. A new report by the internet site Filterbuy, indicates homes in the Sebring-Avon Park metro area average 1,585 square feet. That’s below the national average of 1, 838 square feet.
Researchers say that mirrors a trend that started in 2016 toward smaller residences. Millenials entering the real estate market are credited for reversing the former trend toward larger domiciles. They say that trend could again change, as more people now are staying at home and want more room.

There will be cars on the track today at the Sebring International Raceway. It’s the annual Spring Fling, staged by Historic Sports Car Racing. The three-day event begins this morning with test and tune sessions for all the classes.
In addition to the vintage and historic cars, there also are some vintage drivers taking to the track. Included in that number is NASCAR legend Bill Elliott. “Million Dollar Bill” actually raced at the Sebring 12 Hours back in the late 1980s.
Racing begins tomorrow and runs through Friday.

Yet another brush fire in Highlands County. This one occurred yesterday afternoon off Bassinger Grove Road. Firefighters from Lorida, Desoto City and Highlands Park responded.
They had a hard time getting to the flames, and US 98 was shut down for a time as they brought it under control. Local fire officials speculate it was started from a discarded cigarette.
No injuries were reported and no buildings apparently were damaged in the incident.

More people on the phone trying to separate you from your money. Highlands County Sheriff’s officials say if you get a call from ATT/DirecTV about reducing your bill by paying in advance through a promotion with eBay, please be advised it is a scam.
The scammers claim you can reduce your bill by 50% and get free premium channels if you pay in advance using eBay gift cards.
Authorities say they will simply take the money and run, and you still will be paying your bill. REMEMBER: gift cards are the sign of a scam.
