Highlands County Sheriff’s detectives are working a shooting incident. It occurred shortly before 8:30 last night in Avon Park at West Pleasant and Summit streets during a verbal altercation.
The victim was flown out to a trauma center with what were described as non-life threatening injuries. No arrests have yet been made
Authorities still are trying to find out exactly what sparked the incident.
Units from West Sebring were joined by Florida Forest Service crews last night in putting down yet another brush fire. The fire charred an estimated four acres off Maxcy Road before they could put it out.
A nearby residence was briefly threatened by the flames but crews were able to put them out and save the house.
However, four storage sheds were destroyed.
One resident and one firefighter, both with minor injuries, were transported to an area hospital. Cause of that blaze remains under investigation.
