News Update for 5/13/19

It looks like the Avon Park Executive Airport soon may have a fixed base operator. At their meeting tonight, the Avon Park city council will take a look at a pending agreement with a firm that could run the facility,
In other action, the council will discuss the process to hire a full-time attorney for the board, look at hiring another special magistrate for code enforcement cases, and revisit agreements with NuCor, and a grant from the Department of Economic Opportunity that could run water and sewer services north to the county line.
Councilman Stanley Spurlock again will bring up issues with the Highlands County Sheriff’s office – which provides law enforcement services to the city.

One person was seriously injured last night when a car rolled over south of Avon Park. The accident occurred about 9:30 near Lake Anoka.
The victim was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. The Florida Highway Patrol has released no names or other details.
Saturday, a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Memorial and Sunset Drives sent two more people to the hospital. Their names also have not been released.

At least one person was killed and Highway 60 was tied up for several hours overnight when three vehicles collided east of Lake Wales. Polk County Sheriff’s’s officials say the accident involved two pickups and a car.
They came together between County Road 630 and Grape Hammock Road. Deputies say rain in that area hampered their investigation and efforts to clear the scene.
