A major redevelopment project in downtown Sebring is moving forward. The Community Redevelopment Agency will consider an agreement with Marmer Construction for renovations to the former Bank of America building on South Ridgewood Drive. The proposal includes space for the Racing Hall of Fame on the first floor and Marmer’s corporate offices on the second. Project costs have been reduced significantly, and CRA board members will vote on the agreement during today’s meeting.
The Lake Placid Town Council will consider a contract today that could move the Lake June Park pickleball project closer to construction. The proposed agreement would hire engineering firm Kimley-Horn to manage the bidding process and prepare project specifications. Town leaders say the step will provide accurate construction costs and help determine the project’s financial feasibility before any final commitment is made.
Local seniors will soon have access to expanded in-home support services thanks to a new partnership between Nu-Hope Elder Care Services and SYNERGY HomeCare of Highlands County. The agreement adds SYNERGY as a contracted provider of non-medical home care, including companionship, personal assistance, and daily living support. Both organizations say the partnership will help more seniors remain safely and independently in their homes throughout Highlands County.
A woman is facing charges after a child shot himself in Polk County. The sheriff’s office says a six-year-old boy shot himself in the leg Friday at a home in Winter Haven. Nicole Felippe was the only adult in the home at the time. Deputies searched the home and say they found marijuana, a scale and a glass pipe that all belonged to Felippe. She’s facing drug possession charges, and she’s also charged with neglect of a child with great bodily harm. The child is expected to survive.
