More record gas prices have come to Highlands County. The price of unleaded regular has increased to $4.89 a gallon for unleaded regular at a number of service stations here, with prices of $4.99 spotted in some locations locally.
Experts say, there does not seem to be and end in sight for the pain at the pump.

If you have not taken advantage of Florida’s Tax Free Days for hurricane supplies, there still are a few hours left. Since May 28th, those stocking up on such things as batteries, portable radios, and generators for the upcoming storm season, have been able to escape paying state sales tax.
That all stops at the end of business today. The National Weather Service has forecast an active season.

It appears that when Randy Vossburg leaves as Highlands County Administrator at the end of this month, it won’t be a spur of the moment thing. He apparently will replace Deputy County Administrator Mike Smith in Stafford County Virginia. Smith had been serving as the interim county administrator there since April, when Fred Pressley resigned after only two years on the job.
Officials in Stafford said they made the decision to hire Vossburg after a "rigorous national search." Vossburg leaves here July first and will begin his job there July 5th.

According to reports, Nia Campbell, the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education, reportedly has resigned her job with the Highlands County school system.
Campbell was responsible for secondary curriculum, overseeing secondary principals and assistant principals as well as curriculum specialists, Highlands Virtual School, Highlands Career Institute, Career and Technical Education and Assessment and Accountability.
