News Update for 6/7/22

If local residents think they may have noticed more air traffic – they’re right. Officials at the Avon Park Bombing Range have confirmed that there will be training all week with increased noise levels from aircraft.
To answer the many inquiries, the range has no viewing facilities to watch the action.

Come the end of the month, Highlands County will be looking for a new administrator. After nearly a decade at the reigns, Randy Vossburg is stepping down from the post effective July the first,
Reportedly, he has accepted a similar position in his home state of Virginia. Vossburg made no public announcement of the move, instead, informing commissioners of his intentions in private, one-on-one meetings.
In his letter of resignation, Vossburg said he was "extremely optimistic" about the future of the county complimenting the board as "great commissioners."
At their meeting this morning, commissioners agreed to post the county administrator’s post as they begin to find a replacement.

The Champion for Children’s Circle Theater in downtown Sebring is debuting their new Tuesday matinee series today.
Starting at 2:00 this afternoon, theater-goers will be able to view the Paul Newman classic motion picture "Cool Hand Luke," in what has been described as "the grown-up movie."
Similar films will be each Tuesday through the balance of the month. All seats are two dollars, with $2 popcorn, sodas and candy.
At 10:00 this morning the original Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was screened.
