Highlands County commissioners yesterday approved an agreement with the state of Florida for an environmental protection grant for nearly $200,000. The money is planned for the proposed Memorial Trailhead Park.
The facility sits just off the Memorial Drive roundabout, with access off Panther Parkway. Amenities could include restrooms, a playground, and picnic areas, among other things.
Lake Placid Police have announced that they will not be sponsoring a downtown Halloween Event this year. Officials say they made the announcement early, in the event that another group or individual might want to step forward and take the lead on the annual observance.
They do say that Tricker Treating still will be held as usual. Town council members have not yet set the official date and time form the annual Beggar’s Night.
Frostproof city council members will get together to talk about growth in the Friendly City. They will hold a workshop with the owners of Southern Homes.
The developers have been doing work in the Maxcy Lane area near Lake Reedy. Both nearby residents and council members have had questions about the project, that are slated to be addressed at today’s open forum.
The session will commence at 3:00 this afternoon in the council chambers.
Hardee county listeners, the sheriff’s office is reporting they have impounded a cow, found at large near the intersection of State Road 62 and County Road 663 in the Fort Green Area. Apparently, the 700-pound Angus mix gave officers little trouble.
However, the heifer has no brand, tag or other markings. Those needing more information may contact the Hardee County Sheriff’s office.
