News Update for 9/9/19

Highlands County sheriff’s officials reportedly have found a 32-year-old Sebring woman who had been reported as missing. Angela Christine Robinson had last been seen yesterday walking along Twitty Road carrying her Bible.
She reportedly then disappeared, but returned home today. No explanation as to her whereabouts has been given. Sheriff’s officials say only now that she is “fine.”

Avon Park will wrap up their budget process when they meet this evening in regular session. They will certify the millage, the tax rolls and the budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
In other action council members will look at cleaning up the City of Charm – including collection and disposal of old furniture, mattresses and tires. The council also will be asked to make preparations for a couple of annual downtown Christmas events.

A Sebring woman arrested earlier this year on animal cruelty charges now reportedly has accepted a plea bargain arrangement.
66-year-old Jinice Elizabeth Loughry was hit with 72 counts of animal cruelty back in January. That’s when Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies raided a home on Memorial Drive. There they found 72 animals – 49 of them still were alive.
As part of the deal, Lougry pleaded “no contest” to four felony counts. She reportedly now will serve two years in jail and two more on probation.

An Okeechobee man was killed in a weekend traffic accident here in Highlands County. Florida Highway Patrol reports indicate 28-year-old Brook Lee McCormick was southbound on US 98. He was approaching the curve near County Road 721 when he lost control of his vehicle.
The car went off the road, through a ditch, struck a fence and overturned in a pasture. Troopers say McCormick was not buckled up and was partially ejected through the windshield.
A passenger in the vehicle, who was buckled in, suffered minor injuries.
